Instructions For Main Part Of Hat:

Ch 43 (multiple is any odd number)

Row 1: Work a sc in the second ch from the hook. *work a dc into the next chain, then a sc into the next chain. Repeat from * across.

Row 2: Chain 1 and turn. Single crochet into the very first stitch (stitch at the base of the chain 1). *Work a dc into the next stitch, then a sc into the next stitch. Repeat from * across.

Repeat row 2 until your hat circumference is as big around as you need, I made mine about 18 inches long. I worked 4 rows of each color, but you can do any number you like for a variety of striping effects.

Instructions For Assembly:

Fold the rectangle in half so that starting edge and where you stopped crocheting meet up. Then with a matching piece of yarn, work a whip stitch across. Weave in any ends that remain along that edge. Next, work a running stitch along the top edge and draw tightly to cinch up the top, then tie securely to fasten and weave in those ends as well. Finally, turn hat right side out and you’re ready to add the brim!

Instructions For Hat Brim:

Round 1: turn hat right side out and choose a color for the brim. Tie yarn into any of those side spaces bring up a loop with the new yarn. Next ch 1, then work a sc into each side space all around the edge, then join to close the round with a slip stitch.

Round 2, ch 1, then work a sc into each stitch around, then join to close the round with a slip stitch.

Repeat round 2 for as tall as you’d like your hat brim to be. I worked a total of 4 rounds for my hat, but you can really make it as tall as you like.

Weave in all ends and your Monet’s Garden Slouch Hat is ready to wear!
