2021 Spring CAL Week 3: Spun Sugar Cardigan

Welcome to the 2021 Fiber Flux Spring Crochet Along…hooray! Today is week 3 of the CAL and we’re working on the Spun Sugar Cardigan, a gorgeous light weight sweater perfect for warmer days ahead!  The cardigan is light, lacy, and airy…and so super easy to stitch up!  We will make two lacy “panels” and cleverly seam them together to make a flowing open front wearable…so much fun!

Here’s what we’ll be doing today:

  • Seaming up the panels (up the back and under both arms)
  • Weaving in all of the ends
  • Schedule of the CAL
  • Where to connect with other makers

The CAL is divided over a few weeks, so we’ll tackle each part bit by bit. Scroll down for the schedule with actual dates and what we’ll be doing on each day/week.

Let’s get started shall we?  For today’s part of the CAL, you’ll need some scrap yarn left over from your panels, scissors, and a tapestry needle.  I also used some stitch markers to help mark my spots, but you could easily tie a scrap piece of yarn on there too.

  • Begin by lining everything up.
  • Make sure each panel is the exact same length.  Like we went over before, they can be any length you want (crop, floor length and everything in between).
  • The cardigan as pictured was a total of 122 rows per panel, just to give you a frame of reference if you are after a similar length for your cardigan.
  • Fold each panel in half and mark with a stitch marker where you’d like the arm holes.  It might be helpful to quickly throw it over your shoulder and mark it that way for the best fit.
  • Using a piece of scrap yarn from your panels, seam the area under both arms.
  • Flip the two pieces over and seam up the back with a matching piece of yarn as well.
  • Weave in any ends that remain and it’s all ready to wear!

That’s it!  Enjoy your lovely springy cardigan!
