The solid granny square is a pretty version of the traditional crochet granny square.  It can be used when you prefer less decorative holes, or maybe would like to try a different looking square.  <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Round 1:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

To make a solid granny square, begin by chaining 4,<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Join with a slip stitch to form a ring.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chain 5, <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now work 3 double crochet into the center of the ring, then chain 2.  Work the (3 dc, ch 2) two more times into the center of the ring.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Work 2 more double crochet into the center of the ring,<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

And join with a slip stitch to close.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Round 2:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Slip stitch over to the first chain space, chain 5, then work two double crochet into the corner space.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Work a double crochet in each of the next three stitches.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

To work the corner, work two double crochet, chain two, then two more double crochet in the chain two space from the previous round.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Work the next side the same way, working a double crochet in the next three stitches, then work the next corner by working 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc all in the same space.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Keep working in this manner all the way around, <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the corner where we first began, work one more dc in the corner space,<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Join with a slip stitch to close.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Round 3: <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

To work the next round, slip stitch to the first corner and then chain 5,work 2 dc in the same space.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Work a dc in each stitch across the top (there will be seven this time),<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Work the corner the same way as the previous round (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc)<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

And keep going in this manner all the way around.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond round 3: <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

To work more rounds, you’ll work the corners the same way in each round, and work the sides by working a dc in each stitch.  <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

*Don’t forget to work the corners of the square in the spaces, and the sides of the square in the stitches.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
