Briar Rose Blanket, Free Crochet Pattern + Full Video Tutorial

The Briar Rose Blanket is a gorgeous lacy blanket that is easy to stitch up. Tonal ombre yarn shows off the stitches beautifully and allows for gradient color changes without having to use different balls of yarn. I made mine in a baby size, but the blanket is easy to customize the size. Check out the instructions for multiples and the chart below to get the exact size you need!

For more blanket sizing, check out the chart below. You can adjust the multiples to get desired width in the pattern below. To make the blanket taller, simply work more rows of the pattern.

Abbreviations and Tutorial Links:

Ch 107 (multiple of 4+3)

Row 1: In the 5th ch from the hook work (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc). *Skip 3 chains and in the chain after that, work (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc), repeat from * across until 2 chains remain.  Skip a ch, then in the last ch, work 1 dc.

Row 2: Ch 3 and turn. Work (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in each ch 1 space from the previous row (center of each fan). Work 1 dc into the turning chain space.

Repeat row 2 until the blanket is about 36 inches tall or desired height. Fasten off and weave in any ends that remain.

  1. Love the blanket! I have a question: in the instructions you say "Ch 107 (multiple of 4+3) then the next line says Ch 7". Do we ch 107 or do we ch 107 + 7? I was not sure.

    1. I am not the designer, but it seems to me that being a 4 + 3 multiple, it would have to be 107. Because 4 X 25 is 100, then plus 7 would make it 107. If I am incorrect, Jennifer, please correct me. I just don't see any other way it could be.

  2. I had to start this pattern immediately over the weekend! I am using Sweet Roll in 3 shades of lavender, yarn I already had. The shades of lavender are so similar to each other that it is giving the same tonal effect as your Red Heart Super Saver Ombre. It's working up super-fast!

  3. The Briar Rose Blanket idea is just amazing. This stunning piece is great inspiration for crochet lovers. Te patterns are little complicated but the tutorial makes it easy. For more such ideas visit here –

  4. Thank you for explicit, easy to follow instructions. I expect to make the Briar Rose blanket for babies and will also make the Baby Blanket/Playmat. I didn't realize how easy it is to make a rose and leaf. Yes, you can teach an old dog new tricks.

  5. Love your work. The problem is I would like to print the patterns for making a blanket but they don't print nice. The side advertising prints over the pattern. Can you fix this ? Thank You

  6. Just starting mine in lavender hombre. So excited. I love EVERYTHING you do Jennifer. I have learned so much from your tutorial. Thank you so very much.

  7. If I want to make this blanket a full size how many stitches do I need to start? I am having a hard time figuring it out

  8. I am making this blanket and I am on row 3 but it is very curley will it flatten out as I go bigger with it ? love your work you are so taltanted
